The World Needs All the Good That I Can Do
―
The Outer Banks is a wonderful community. Even though we’re stretched along a thin strip of sand, when one community hurts, we all feel the pain.
No time is that more true than when there’s a hurricane. Up in Duck we’re worried for our friends on Hatteras Island…and the folks over on Roanoke Island worry about the folks out on the beaches. This year, as Hurricane Dorian passed across the Atlantic and took aim on the North Carolina Coast after ravaging the Bahamas, we all worried.
Sadly, our concerns were realized as we saw those on Ocracoke and on Hatteras Island suffer from the ferocity of a storm that took far too much.
So now we usher in October – once again reflecting that Hurricane Season is one of our biggest threats…and that in any given season, each of us can be far too vulnerable to the wrath of Mother Nature.
Hurricane Dorian caused serious destruction…and the need is great and necessary to help people put their lives and livelihoods back together. Efforts to help our neighbors were put in place as soon as the storm left the coast, but unfortunately, the recovery won’t be nearly as swift. This is why, here at Beach Treasures in Duck, we are making a commitment every month to GIVE BACK to help our fellow OBX’ers.
A huge effort to this end is the Outer Banks Community Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund – but it certainly won’t stop with that. Organizations like our local Beach Food Pantry and Hotline, that provide goods and services, will also be in great demand this winter. So, we’re trying to do our part and hope that you will consider doing the same.
