A Tree Trimmed with Treasures
The Holidays are Coming...
It seems like we barely have a moment to savor the Halloween candy before we start planning the Thanksgiving feast...knowing full well that the next day (aka as "Black Friday") just about everyone will laser focused on Christmas and the winter holiday season.
However, one thing I’ve come to appreciate over the years is that ornament shopping -- and collecting -- spans all seasons. Rarely do shoppers need to hear Bing croon or feel chillier temps to seriously shop for Christmas tree trimmings.
Part of this is that ornaments represent so many things. Memories, heirlooms, souvenirs, even crafty creations made during childhood. I think most people's trees aren't color coordinated and trimmed to be worthy of display in a Macy's window. I think most are an eclectic, mash-up of small treasures that come to represent a lifetime of love, laughter, and experiences shared by family and friends.
Here at Beach Treasures in Duck, many of our ornaments depict the iconic symbols that represent the Outer Banks -- a Corolla wild pony, a statuesque lighthouse, a dancing dolphin...and of course, a duck! Crafted from wood or hand painted on shells, the assortment of holiday ornaments includes many forms. However, they have an appeal that expands far beyond the craftsmanship, touching a heartstring and representing special times spent on the Outer Banks.
For gifts or keepsakes, every ornament has its own backstory...a bit of nostalgia, and let's face it, that's part of the holiday magic.
